Description Ground source heat pumps extract heat fromGround source heat pumps extract heat from the ground via pipes buried in the garden. The heat from the ground is absorbed into the fluid (water and vegetable based antifreeze) that circulates around a ground loop. Passing through a compressor, the temperature is raised to a level that can be used for heating and hot water. If enough space is available, the loop is usually laid flat or coiled in trenches about two metres deep.
